Fabric Ministries

On Sunday, May 1, 2022, we dedicated 40+ Quilts that were on display in Dutilh Church's sanctuary.

These quilts are destined for the Mars chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a non-profit that builds beds for kids who sleep on the floor.  The bed, mattresses, and bedding are all donated.  We're excited to partner with this group and continue to share God's love to kids in need.  Even if only one bed is needed, but there are three kids, the family will get three quilts.

For more about Sleep in Heavenly Peace, read this Butler Eagle news article and visit the organization’s website.

Thank you to so many of you who have made these beautiful quilts.  We've already begun the prep work for the next set of quilts.  If you're new to this ministry and would like to join, you need only to sew a straight line.  You'll receive a kit with all the pieces cut and ready to sew along with instructions.  There will be sewing sessions or you can sew at home.  Louise Warner continues her leadership in this ministry.

You don’t have to sew to make fabric bags; we need people who can iron and cut, as well!

Dutilh Church has a variety of fabric and craft ministries:

  • Quilt & More meets the fourth Monday of each month. This group welcomes everyone with any kind of project involving thread, yarn, or fabric, including MHY quilts. Grab your crafting materials and gather with friends to create something beautiful.

  • The Fabric Bags group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our participants iron, sew, cut, or measure/pin in an assembly-line team effort.  We break for devotions and lunch, and enjoy fellowship while being of service to others.  Bring a lunch and a drink and enjoy getting together with long-time AND new friends while doing something good for the Center for Hope. Our Fabric Bag Ministry has made 605 fabric bags from 2018 to 2021 for the faith-based, nonprofit Center for Hope in Ambridge.  Our bags are given out at their food pantry.  From 2011 to 2017, the team made 1,008 bags for school supplies for the United Methodist Committee on Relief, nationally and internationally, until the organization switched to plastic bags.

  • MHY Quilters make quilts for children at MHY Family Services. Read all about this team of amazing volunteers!
