Horn of Africa Hunger Crisis
Many areas of Africa are struggling right now with terrible food shortages amidst a drought. Maurice Bloem, deputy director of Church World Service, a partner of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Church World Service, UMCOR, and other members of the faith-based ACT Alliance are coordinating their response to the hunger crisis that currently is affecting 11 million to 12 million people in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti. You can help with a cash donation. To donate, make out check to “WPAUMC” and in the memo line, put “UMCOR Advance #982450 - Horn of Africa Crisis.”

Japan Relief
Ways to help Japan: NEW YORK (UMNS) - As Japan confronts a crisis with its water and food supplies, churches and individuals might feel compelled to send material aid. However, relief officials urge that donations be made instead. Sending supplies can actually hamper the relief effort, while monetary donations can be used most effectively by agencies on the ground to provide people with the help they need. Donations can be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief. UMCOR will use 100 percent of the donation for Japan relief. United Methodist partners include: Church World Service, Stop Hunger Now and GlobalMedic. Church groups network for Japan relief: TOKYO (UMNS) — Both inside and outside Japan, church-related organizations are beginning to network together to respond to survivors of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Meanwhile, the radiation threat continues as workers try to repair damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. UMCOR has received $600,000 in donations for the emergency as of March 21.
